What the hell did we just witness? It took one half of footy for the Blues to absolutely crush my optimism heading into the new season. We got put through our paces as Hawthorn players today, and the contrast couldn’t have been starker. Joey lives his best life at his childhood club. Dan? Doesn’t even make it through warm-ups - tears his hammy stretching for a high ball. Spirits took a hit, but the pod was still a blast. All fun and games... until I realise I probably can’t pick Poppy up for the next 2–12 weeks. Here’s hoping we didn’t just curse the Hawks. This was meant to be a normal week. Instead, Carlton beat the Brisbane Lions in a pre season hit out that meant absolutely nothing and now we’ve seen enough. Blues are officially the best team in the league. Lock in finals. Lock in top four. Lock in September. Lygon St parade pending Are we overreacting? Yes. Do we care? Absolutely not. Strap in. The lid is off.

We’re straight into practice matches like they actually mean something, overanalysing every touch while quietly spiralling because your club’s best player has already ruled himself out for Round 1. The season hasn’t even started and we’re cooked. And yes... we’re officially laying the Olivia Dean x AFL edits to rest. They had a good run. But as always, the internet got involved, ran it into the ground, and now we can’t have nice things.
